Votes in stripes

Each county (or district) shows its actual vote share as stripes: red/blue for the two major-party candidates, green/purple for Yes/No on a ballot measure. Stripe spacing and color saturation encode total votes cast. Hover a unit for counts.

Stripe ratios encode candidate share; saturation and stripe period encode turnout (total votes, a proxy, not population). Alternating orientation uses a centroid-grid heuristic. Hatched units have no results in the source. Data is built locally by build/build.js from certified public sources (MIT Election Data + Science Lab via ElectionData.dev and GitHub; OpenElections for results not yet certified), from The New York Times results page data (AP counts; the only county-level source for 2026, for ballot measures and for other statewide offices; unofficial until certified) and from Census boundaries. Races the source reports only as a statewide total are listed but cannot be mapped.
